Agriculture

Farming and agriculture  are  the backbone of our community . Our society is strongly connected to the Earth and we nourish ourselves with the food we grow every day here.  The entire process of how we grow and enjoy our food matters  and serves as a core of our community; being good global citizens is what we strive for every day.  Many volunteers choose to pursue and learn about the agriculture at Camphill, instilling the skill of living alongside the Earth which lasts a lifetime.

Every morning, our farmers wake up before the rest of the village  to greet the cows and milk them before leading them out to the carefully maintained pasture. We practice biodynamic agriculture and a large part of that  entails great attention to the farm as an expertly balanced system where virtually nothing is wasted.  Sustainably feeding our village is one of our fundamental values, and we are grateful for the opportunity to treat our land with such respect.

We have multiple gardens throughout our community which help us source the healthy and wholesome food  we  enjoy  every day. The vegetable garden is harvested  to provide food for each  household and our Demeter certified healing plant garden  provides the vital ingredients needed to create the lavender lotions, salves, ointments, herb mixes and  aromatic room sprays we appreciate.
